New Truths Straight from MA Payer Organizations

Verinovum, Inc. recently utilized marketing partner Envision Health to execute a third-party market research study of Medicare Advantage (MA) programs in seven payer organizations of varying sizes and demographics. The goal of the study was to better understand the role and structure of MA programs within different kinds of payer organizations and how these payers and programs obtain and use clinical data for their most pressing needs.
As part of the research, the team spoke with organizations representatives from health plans including regional Blues payers, large national payers, smaller regional payers, and government payers. Representatives from the payer organizations served in a variety of roles but were typically responsible for quality and/or case management as it pertains to Medicare Advantage (MA) plans and, sometimes, other plans.
Several overarching themes emerged from the interview series. These themes provide a sense of payers’ key challenges and can help payer organizations think about innovative approaches they may take in the future.
